Heading: Clay Phillips Dateline: Charleston David Clayton (Clay) Phillips, 21, of 61 Cooper Street, died February 3, 2010. A native of Davidson County, Tennessee, son of James (Jim) and Christine (Chris) Smith Phillips of Greenville, he was a 2007 graduate of James F. Byrnes High School and a 2009 graduate of the Culinary Institute of Charleston. He was a sous chef at The Old Village Post House Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Clay found his passion in cooking and one day looked forward to owning his own restaurant. He was of the Baptist faith. Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, Nancy Lee Sprague of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; maternal grandfather, Dale W. Smith of Green Valley, Arkansas; maternal great-grandparents, Harry and Jean Smith of Gallatin, Tennessee; and maternal great-grandmother, Lenora Sprague of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Duncan First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Garry Harper and Rev. Lamar McAbee. Visitation will be held after the service at the church. The family is at the home of his parents, 117 East Cranberry Lane, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TTC Foundation, Clay Phillips Memorial Fund, P.O.
